Description
Reflections is a recording of Sufjan Stevens sixth collaboration with acclaimed choreographer Justin Peck. Originally commissioned for performances (May 17 – 26, 2019) by Houston Ballet, the piano duet was recorded at Oktaven Studios by Ryan Streber and performed by pianists Timo Andres and Conor Hanick. Reflections is characteristic Stevens: dynamic, melodic, memorable, emotionally resonant, and playful (one track is titled And I Shall Come To You Like A Stormtrooper in Drag Serving Imperial Realness). Though Stevens may be best known for his singer-songwriter catalog, Reflections – alongside other compositions like The BQE and The Decalogue – further establishes him as a contemporary composer.
