The West Side Story (1961) soundtrack features music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, released by Columbia Masterworks Records. It spent 54 weeks at No. 1 on Billboards stereo albums chart the longest run at No. 1 for any album at the time and also topped the mono chart for 6 weeks. The album won a Grammy for Best Sound Track Album Original Cast in 1962 and is certified three times platinum in the U.S.
Notably, most of the singing in the film was dubbed by professional vocalists, including Marni Nixon, who sang for Natalie Wood as Maria, and Jim Bryant, who voiced Richard Beymer as Tony. Rita Morenos Anita was partly dubbed by Betty Wand, and Russ Tamblyns Riff was dubbed by Tucker Smith for some songs
